Jay Brannan might look familiar to anybody who saw the Houston-born singer-songwriter's head-turning performance in the 2006 indie flick 'Shortbus.' Now Brannan is gearing up to show the world he has more than just acting chops with the July 7 release of his new album, 'In Living Cover.'

In addition to two original songs, the album will contain seven covers ranging from 'Zombie,' by the Cranberries, to Bob Dylan's 'Blowin' in the Wind.' Fans will have a chance to hear the tunes live when Brannan hits the road for a U.S. tour, kicking off on July 8 at Joe's Pub in New York City (full dates after the jump).

Check out Brannan's cover of 'Zombie' from the upcoming release below, as well as the exclusive album artwork after the jump.

Amazing cover of zombie. I can't wait until this is released. Covers of Joni and Ani, not many can cover them and do them justice, but you can.

Jay Brannan is effing incredible. I enjoy his covers immensely and I'm psyched for this cd. I never bother with physical copies of albums anymore for the most part, but I'm ordering this immediately.

Wow, this is an excellent version of Zombie!!! This weekend I saw Jay Brannan's show in Paris. I was really impressed by his performance and I love his songs. I look forward to this cover cd, but I would have loved to hear his version of Thirteen.
