"My wife is [the] person that I go drinking with." --Rob Thomas
In a recent interview, the Matchbox Twenty frontman revealed his secret to a happy, lasting marriage: old-fashioned booze. He added, "I would sooner go out with her than I would any of my friends." Bro, take it easy.

Wow. Not on his music, he seems a lot different, I just reviewed his latest solo album, here's a link to it: http://bit.ly/hADis

We don't drive home either if we end up drinking too much(which is a rare occasion), & you know, I feel the same way Rob does. I'd rather spend time with my mate (mostly because we don't get a lot of time together because he's in the army & stationed in NY whereas I live in Oregon).

Getting drunk is a different story, you harm your body, can harm others, can lose good judgment and do things you ordinarily would not do. An officer explained to me, it is ok to drink and drive as long as it is within the legal limits. I am not critical of people who drink, only of people who are not responsible when they drink. I have been to lounges with my husband while he had a beer and I had a virgin drink. I never told him he could not drink. He was able to enjoy a beer or two and he respected that I wanted only virgin drinks. He NEVER encouraged, tricked or prodded me to have alcohol. Only once low volume wine because I was sick. That didn't work for me so that was the end of that. I don't believe that eveyone who drinks is an alcoholic. I just want people to respect and accept that I don't drink just like I respect and accept their decision to drink.
May 17 2009 at 7:36 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI don't think that it is wrong to drink. I think it is harmful to the body, others and to relationships if people get drunk. I asked an officer recently if it is ok for officers to drink off duty. He said yes and that it's not illegal to drink and drive but it is illegal to drive if your alcohol level is above the level required by law. This makes sense. I am a bit sensitive about alcohol period due to my sister in law was killed in front of her kids by a drunk driver and alcoholism runs in my family. I DO totally agree that if a man or woman is going to drink, it's best to do it with your girfriend or boyfriend - it is safer for the relationship. I never stopped my husband from drinking, he did that because he wanted to stop. I never told him he could not drink. I just didn't want him to get drunk. I would go out with my husband if he wanted to drink as long as he didn't mind my drinking virgin drinks. I have went out with my husband and drank virgin drinks while he had a beer - in the past. I don't judge people who drink. I am friends with people who drink and think they are some of my sweetest friends. I have no problem with the drinking si I expect them to have no problem with my NOT drinking. My decision should be respected as well as theirs.
