They Might Be Giants Sponsoring Little League Teams

From 'Jock Jams' to Shaq's rap albums to Eddie Vedder cursing last year's Chicago Cubs season, the worlds of sports and music frequently overlap and often disappoint. But that was before They Might Be Giants decided to do something positive and sponsor Little League baseball teams.

The quirky Brooklyn rockers recently learned that a Seattle T-Ball team was named after the band by the coaches who, like TMBG's frontmen, are both named John. The band is no stranger to the world of kids -- they've released several children's albums, from 2002's 'No!' to last year's Grammy-winning 'Here Come the 123s' -- and naturally, they were overjoyed when they heard about the honor. "It's very flattering, and the photograph just knocked us out," guitarist John Flansburgh said in a statement. "Seeing an entire Little League team all wearing the 'No!' t-shirts just made everyone in the band smile."

TMBG love the idea so much that they're planning to provide 10 more teams with free t-shirts because, as Flansburgh puts it, "If a pizza parlor or a super market can sponsor a team, why can't a rock band?" The band is taking applications on its website now, and they point out that future teams will have a lot to live up to -- the Seattle squad's T-Ball league doesn't keep score, so technically They Might Be Giants are undefeated this season.
