Depeche Mode's Dave Gahan Has Tumor Removed
- Posted on May 28th 2009 11:00AM by John D. Luerssen
Depeche Mode frontmant Dave Gahan's recent bout with gastroenteritis was more serious than anyone originally thought. It turns out that the singer had what the band is calling a "low-grade malignant tumor" in his bladder.Gahan was first hospitalized on May 12, forcing the cancellation of DM's Athens, Greece gig. A number of additional concerts planned over the past few weeks were subsequently postponed as the singer learned of his diagnosis and underwent successful surgery to remove the tumor.
Gahan remains on a doctor-ordered break until June 8, when the band intends to resume its recently interrupted 'Tour of the Universe' in Leipzig. According to a statement on the group's official website, Gahan "sincerely thanks his fans for their support, understanding and patience."
"Depeche Mode deeply regret any problems or inconveniences the cancellations and postponements may have caused," the band adds, with the hope that European fans can forgive the need to shift dates around. U.S. fans will be pleased to learn that the group's North American summer tour -- which launches on July 24th in Toronto, and features a Lollapalooza headlining gig on August 7 -- will go on as planned.

cali125 you're so tough. every bladder cancer treatment i've seen bcg has at least 6 week treatment, if you're not having treatment, must be non malignant which isn't cancer
cancer surgury even minor in is hospital, a cathider would be in at least 3 days to make sure of no clotting. you work at jail with a cathider, you are tough
every bladder cancer is different, to call anyone a pussy is just ingnorant
my first tumor removal 12/23/08 followed by 6 weeks bcg. they found three more in april and had surgury 5/26/09
last night my surgeon called with pathology and i'll have to have radical cystocomy(bladder removal)
i guess i'm a pussy because i'll have to be in hospital 7-10 days then 6 weeks recovery
then i get to catheterize myself when i have to urinate the rest of my life
i just turned 54 and still play semi pro baseball
well. i did
by the way, i'm still not back to work full time as to much abdominal pain and won't take pain meds
Hey CALI123 hope your health improves and you are ok, but C'mon I don't think calling Dave a Cry baby makes much sense in this case as he has a rigorous and extremely long tour coming up and for all of us True Depeche fans, we would like him completely healthy as to limit future cancellations, etc and ensure he is OK. For all of you claiming Dave is a cry baby or questioning why the band cancelled some shows, don't be idiots. A person's health comes before anything else...Without health, you have nothing.
