Jack Penate Takes a 'Glance' at Adele

On track number six off of Jack Peñate's sophomore album, the Brit admits that there are two things to take note of: a really big sniff that he forgot to take out of the recording, and Adele.

While visiting New York to promote 'Everything Is New,' due August 18, Peñate stopped by the Spinner office to play some of the record for the staff. On the forementioned song, 'Every Glance,' Peñate sings all about a woman's Medusa-like gaze, with Adele providing background vocals.

"It only took a year to do, so to hear it again will be a pleasure," Peñate told the staff.

As songs like 'Pull My Heart Away,' 'Be the One' and 'Every Glance' spun, Peñate spoke of how the record came about, and how it compares to his last effort.

"The first record is quite different to this," Peñate said, voicing a feeling of "elation but sadness" in the atmosphere of 'Everything is New.' Peñate told us he was listening to a diverse assortment of Womack and Womack's 'Teardrops,' Kate Bush's 'Running Up That Hill,' Brazilian '70s psychedelic funk, Southern American brass bands and Dr. John while preparing the album, but said, "I knew it'd always be British."

Though Peñate said he loves New York, the conversation inevitably turned to London -- in particular, the, er, delicacies of Perfect Chicken, and why he's found success in music rather than academia over there. "I wasn't into university at all," Peñate admitted. "I got 6 percent [in Latin] at the end of the year, and they let me pass because they said I had a lot of will."
