Julian Lennon Aids Real-Life 'Lucy'

Julian Lennon, the son of late Beatle John Lennon, is throwing his support behind childhood friend Lucy O'Donnell, -- the girl behind the Beatles tune 'Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds' -- who is suffering from the auto-immune disease lupus.

"I've been able to help out a bit," Lennon said of O'Donnell, now Lucy Vodden, 46, from Surrey, England. "I was so upset to hear what happened."

Julian Lennon met Lucy in nursery school, drew a picture of her with diamond-shaped eyes and showed his father, thus inspiring the song, which appeared on 1967's 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.' The song has long been the subject of speculation, however, with many maintaining that it's a reference to LSD. The Beatles have admitted to using the drug around that time.

Meanwhile, Lucy is happy to have reconnected with Julian. "It was lovely of Julian [to get in touch]."

sorry but just a little confused about one thing. question is lsd a drug for Lupus and the llyrics about
the little girls veiw of life with lupus treated with lsd, or is that the artist writting the song about a little girl lucy was on a drug while creating the dicription of the drawing of lucy that julian hand drew
and handed to his dad.?

Lennon took FOUR bullets, moron. It was a pure and simple cold blooded murder by a pure coward. Read up on your music history some more and stop confusing the rest of us musicans out here. You need to get educated. And not on just your favorite...drugs.

They why did John later insist the song was written for the Nanny? It's not a drug anthem, blah-blah-blah. Yeah, I read the story, but it conveniently changes every decade.
