Perry Farrell Wants to Be Lou Reed's Chauffer

Right about now, lots of folks are talkin' Bonnaroo. Not Perry Farrell. He's got his mind on Lou Reed and Lollapalooza. "I'm gonna hopefully drive him around on a golf cart," Farrell tells Spinner of his plans for Reed at the Chicago fest. "One of the things I promised him is I would make him a CD mix. I thought to myself, 'Well, I can do one better than a mix tape.' So I'm gonna golf cart him around and show him the groups."

As for those groups? "I would take him to Animal Collective, he probably would enjoy Fleet Foxes and Santigold," he says. "She's a Brooklyn girl."

Perhaps Reed is also getting extra attention from the Lolla founder because of how close they came to not having the icon at this year's event. "We had that special slot saved, we were running names and I had just met Lou face to face at SXSW," Farrell says. "He at first came back with a maybe and his maybe lasted a long while. We were about to move onto another name. We had an expiration date for the offer and on the expiration day, Lou came back and said yes. I just kind of went, 'Wow, this is going to be something else.'"

Anybody planning Farrell's Lolla must-sees knows exactly where to start -- with Reed. "That guy was so influential for me as a writer, a performer and his lifestyle."
