One of the true breakout bands at Bonnaroo this year is undoubtedly the Low Anthem, and they've certainly been working hard to earn that title. In fact, frontman Ben Knox Miller told Spinner that while he's come to Bonnaroo many times before "as a fan" but as a musician, he's been too busy doing interviews and playing music to actually watch much himself. His band performed on Thursday night in That Tent, yesterday on the Sonic Stage, and today at a special private show backstage for the media. The mini set, held in the press compound, consisted of 'Cage the Songbird' from the band's forthcoming 'Oh My God, Charlie Darwin,' a brand new song tentatively titled 'Blind Lead the Blind' and 'Sweet Heaven When I Die,' a song that the Anthem's Jeff Prystowsky tells Spinner they saw Pete Seeger cover on a DVD they watched earlier on their bus.
Their reason for covering it was the lyrics, which have connect with the festival's setting and potential rewards. "It has something to do with Tennessee," he said. "And it has lyrics about greenbacks. Greenbacks!" After all their hard work at Bonnaroo, it won't be too long before the Low Anthem are slapping them down themselves.
