New Order Form 'Bad' Supergroup With Blur

From the ashes of defunct dance rock icons New Order comes Bad Lieutenant, a new band consisting of vocalist/guitarist Bernard Sumner, drummer Stephen Morris, guitarist Phil Cunningham and Blur bassist Alex James. Presumably named after the 1992 Harvey Kietel film, the group plans to release their debut album this October.

"I'm very proud of it, it's a very good album," Sumner tells the BBC. "It's pretty guitary too because we've got three guitarists in the band." In support of the yet-to-be-titled disc, the band will hit the road although the dates have yet to be announced.

Bad Lieutenant took shape last year, after New Order's storied split. "Basically [bassist Peter Hook] left the band, that's all I want to say about it," Sumner explains. "We split into two factions. There's me, Steve and Phil. The other is Peter."
