The Avett Brothers Build on Buzz With Rick Rubin
- Posted on Jun 16th 2009 1:30PM by Scott Tomford
Thanks to a new Columbia Records deal and the aid of legendary producer Rick Rubin, it shouldn't surprise anyone that folk rockers the Avett Brothers are on the cusp of buzz-turned-stardom. But, as singer Scott Avett told Spinner when the band stopped by our office, they aren't bulletproof. After playing a sold out New Year's show in their native North Carolina, Scott left his bandmates and headed for far less celebratory setting: St. Joseph's Hospital. "After those good times, my wife was sick in the ER, and I was in the waiting room, staring at these two dudes who'd beaten each other up," Scott told Spinner of the song 'St. Joseph's,' which they performed. "I kept thinking to myself, 'How did I get here?' That's how I came up with the song."
