Band's Name Ruins Family Dinner

Toronto electronic outfit Holy F--- have gotten their fair share of attention for their name -- including Canada's ruling Conservative Party citing them as a reason to pull almost $5 million in arts funding last year -- and some people just couldn't stomach reading about them in a family establishment. It seems a poster for Calgary's upcoming Sled Island festival, featuring the band's moniker spelled out in full, found its way into Kane's Harley Diner in Calgary, prompting manager Ali Clark to complain.
"That's appalling to find in a family restaurant,"she told CBC reporter Falice Chin. "Imagine your eight-year-old going over to read it."
The bright pink posters boast colourful cartoon drawings, making it easy to overlook the profanity. Clark missed it until a child pointed out the offending term to her. She stressed that the poster had been put up without the restaurant's permission.
The festival's organizers are reprinting the posters with the band's name censored, while festival organizer Zakary Pashak has apologized. But Terry Rock, president and CEO of Calgary Arts Development, doesn't think the word was used obscenely.
"We're very fortunate Sled Island has booked this band to play in Calgary," he told the CBC. "This is a good band; this is good music; this is a great festival the City of Calgary is lucky to have."
