Yeah Yeah Yeahs 'Blitz' a Sunny Glastonbury Sunday

"My heart stopped for a second. It was crazy. There were so many people," the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Nick Zinner told Spinner after coming off stage.Having come up with 'It's Blitz,' an album some would argue is the best of the year so far, there were plenty of people wanting to see if the Yeah Yeah Yeahs might just be festival legends in the making too.
They're a band who don't look they've spent that much time in rural environments. Karen O's garments of choice, for instance, rarely look capable of keeping out the worst of the elements.
Urban ambassadors they may be, but the YYYs are no strangers to the festival scene -- since 2003 they've been regular invaders.
Their 'It's Blitz'-heavy set began with 'Runaway,' which saw Karen O resplendent in headdress and green tights, while 'Art Star' saw her singing through black fabric, an outlandish apparition in deepest, rural Somerset.
The studded leather jacket Karen O has been sporting of late made its appearance for 'Zero,' which at the end saw the band release a giant inflatable eye into the crowd. Perhaps too much for those entering late-stage festival psychosis.
Karen O owned the stage -- prowling, pointing, bouncing, wailing, gesticulating -- a riot of color and barely contained energy.
At the end of 'Date With the Night,' Zinner smashed his guitar into splinters, a buzzing, screaming finale to cement the band's rabble-rousing triumph.
