Adele Headlines Hollywood Bowl After Etta James Cancels

Adele has two Grammys and a Brit Award under belt, despite only having released one album -- the multi-platinum, chart-topping '19.' And when it came time to headline the Hollywood Bowl Sunday night with Etta James, well, she was strong enough to go it alone in front of the sold-out crowd after James canceled last-minute due to an unspecified illness. (Chaka Khan served as James' last-minute replacement.)

From the moment she stepped onto the Bowl's stage, and launched her dynamic voice into 'Crazy For You,' Adele's anxiousness was palpable. "I feel like Beyonce or something. There are so many of you!" she said after first taking off her heels to feel more comfortable, and then describing the site in front of her as "the biggest crowd ever." "I'm really, really nervous," she exclaimed.

Adele also paid homage to Jackson with a 2 minute "Thriller" instrumental, which she seemed to also forget the lyrics too.

Still, Adele showed off her versatility with multiple covers: the Raconteurs' 'Many Shades of Black,' Bob Dylan's 'Make You Feel My Love,' Etta James''Fool That I Am' and Michael Jackson's 'Thriller,' in tribute to the late King of Pop. She forgot a couple of lyrics on the latter, including a couple of her own lyrics, but all was forgiven.

The singer later punched out the new song 'Take It All,' which her piano man only learned 4 hours prior. The crowd offered up a standing ovation after she closed her biggest performance to-date with her most famous tune 'Chasing Pavements,' which she thoughtfully renamed for the American audience 'Chasing Sidewalks.'
