Eddie Van Halen Marries Longtime Girlfriend

Eddie Van Halen married his longtime girlfriend on the grounds of his seven-acre manse Saturday night. Wearing flip-flops, the iconic guitarist wed Janie Liszewski, in his estate's garden after she came down the aisle to a performance of Van Halen's 'When It's Love' by the Sonus Quartet.

According to People, Eddies 18-year-old son, Wolfgang, served as best man for his second marriage. The 54-year-old guitarist's drummer/brother Alex Van Halen, an ordained minister, officiated at the 20-minute, non-denominational service. Van Halen's ex-wife, Valerie Bertinelli -- who he divorced in 2006, after 25 years of marriage -- was among the 100 or so guests who sipped non-alcoholic beverages from the lemonade bar in honor of Eddie's year-and-a-half of sobriety.

For their first dance, Van Halen chose 'You Are So Beautiful' by Joe Cocker, followed by his wife's selection, Cyndi Lauper's 'Time After Time.' The couple intends on honeymooning in New York, Germany and Eddie's birthplace, the Netherlands.

I can understand why Val went to her ex husband wedding. Just because their marriage ended, doesn't mean their friendship ended. Also Eddie is her son's father.

I think it's great and mature. Look to Demi & Bruce that divorce worked and looks like this one does too. Congrats to them & Eddie for his sobriety too.

I've heard of ex wives and husbands attending weddings. It's not that unusual. It would seem that it's awkward but it's done. I guess it shows that there are no hard feelings and that can be a good thing.

It doesn't state how long they have been together, but since he divorced only 3 years ago can she really be called his long time girlfriend? Was she is mistress for years and years or does dating someone for 3 years constitute long term? Many people date for longer than that especially after getting a divorce from a 25 year marriage. They take it slower the next time (if they are smart anyway).

It's good when divorced couples with children can be civil to one another and even better if they can be friendly. But I have to say after having been through a relationship where the "ex" just wouldn't go away, distance and space can be a very good thing. At first I was all for the "one big happy family" atmosphere (especially for the kids), but as time went on, she "forgot" her boundaries. It was a delicate situation and one that my fiance and I would fight about. He was on my side, but couldn't or wouldn't tell her it was time to spread her wings and find some friends other than us.

Valerie and Eddie only have 1 child...18 year old Wolfgang...yes it is great they support each other...they were a very cute coupe when they were dating...I saw them early one morning driving through Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.

Actually, I think it is sad that more people aren't able to get over their old relationships and move forward including their former "loved ones" in their lives. Especially lovers who are sharing the role of parenting. The only thing "wierd" is that we would cut off those who we once professed our love to and shared years with. That's weird to me.

It may take some years to get through the heartbreak and discomfort but how much healthier we would all be (of course I'm not talking about unsafe or abusive relationships) if we could move forward and keep those who have shared our past.
