With all the international touring artists do, it was only a matter of time before one of them contracted swine flu. Unfortunately for indie singer-songwriter Jens Lekman, that artist is him. The 28-year-old is in quarantine for the next 10 days in his native Sweden.Lekman revealed the news in a blog post that begins "I picked home one last souvenir from South America, it's called the H1N1 virus. Wrongfully known as the Swineflue." After a short stint South American tour where he performed in Chile, Argentina and Brazil, he was flying home when the symptoms began.
"I was crossing the Atlantic when things started getting really bad, the fever was hallucinogenic and shaking me like a leaf and I grabbed the sleeve of the Air France steward," he writes. "'I'm not feeling well, I should see a doctor' I said and the reply came as a brilliant mix of death anxiety and French rudeness: 'Uh, yes... Terminal D... go there maybe... when we land'. After that the stewards and stewardesses took long detours. A ring of empty seats formed around me. Peoples eyes were kind but determined, they read 'Poor you, I really wish you all the best but if you come near me or my kid I will have to stab you with this plastic fork'. I got up and went to the bathroom where I fainted."
It appears as though the diagnosis hasn't dampened his spirits. "Now I'm in quarantine for ten days," he writes at the end of the post. "I can see the summer through my window and it's just perfect. Summer is always best through a window." So far, none of his upcoming gigs have been cancelled. Get well soon, Jens.

IN REFERENCE TO THIE POST BY CRAIG: I'm getting sick and tired of these people spreading the swine flu!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is what happens when you insist on traveling!!!
WHAT A VERY STRANGE OBSERVATION. TRAVEL AND ILLNESS ARE BOTH PART OF LIFE. i AM SURE YOU 'TRAVEL' TO MANY PLACES YOURSELF....A SUPERMARKET, DOCTORS OFFICE, WORK?
ANY WHERE YOU GO ON THIS IMPERFECT PLANET PUTS YOU AT RISK FOR A HOST OF ILLNESSES. BEING PARANOID AND ANGRY SOLVES NOTHING. BUILDING YOUR IMMUNITY UP BY LIVING A HEALTHY LIFE STYLE IS YOUR BEST DEFENSE, NOT GETTING HYSTERICAL BECAUSE SOMEONE CAME DOWN WITH THE FLU WHILE TRAVELING. GEEZ

what you don't understand is that when there's a pandemic which the swine flu has been declared, you can't travel all over hell because you will catch it and spread. Jeepers peeps. WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By traveling a lot, you build up an immunity to all the germs out there. I travel every two weeks and I was the only person in our office that wasn't sick this winter with all the flu that was going around. I have been doing this for 5 years and my doctor told me that I have built an immunity up. So traveling a lot doesn't necessarily make you prone to illness.
Craigat 7-04-2009
No you DO NOT build up an immunity by traveling a lot. That's utter nonsense. Its like they say if you work around kids a lot up build up an immunity. Pack of utter nonsense. Go back to school

No one cares. Go away.

While actually traveling alot and being around kids and public places is a test of immunity, there are many factors including your own body genes and how you maintain health that help our immunity. All flu has claimed lives througout history for various reasons. The swine hasn't come close. You can't run from flu, any flu, so it would behoove all of us to choose living healthy lives. Not sure who deemed this a pandemic, but I would question it and do what I can to build up immunity. Eat better, think healthy, exercise, drink less pop and better liquids, etc.

I noticed everyone has been freaking out about the Swine Flu. However, I don't think that they realize that YES, it is spreading, but as of now it's nothing more than a normal flu. The worry is about vaccination and what it COULD turn into with constant mutation, but not so much what it is now. The flu does suck pretty hard though, so I hope Jens and the many other infected people get better. ;O

How about everyone washing their hands more often? We would all be in better shape!!!

Craig, you are the one that needs to go back to school....if you knew anything about biology you would know that organisms build immunity to certain things they are exposed to constantly over a prolonged timeframe. Ever hear of the superflu? That is a virus which built immunity to the vaccinations available. Therefore, it would be no different if a human constantly exposed themselves to different environments where they were exposed to many different diseases, etc in a hope their body would build a tolerance - which it does - go talk to a doctor if you are still feeling like you know everything. YOU ARE UTTER NONSENSE BUDDY. Good luck to Jens, even though I have no idea who he really is.

If you must travel, and people do need to at times, take resonable precautions. Wash your hands frequently, keep you hands away from your eyes nose and out of your mouth. (use a tissue) When you cough or sneeze unexpectedly do so in your inner elbow, and if you really want to be careful wear an N-95 mask while traveling in public.
