Noel Gallagher Says Yes to Drugs

While some keep their drug use under the radar, Oasis' Noel Gallagher admitted to spending £1 million on drugs till he kicked the habit in 1998. Despite all the cash he dropped on drugs (including doing cocaine in a toilet that was set aside for the Queen of England), Gallagher said he never did heroin, "which kills people and which I have never tried." He stopped using in 1998 "because it is bad for your health, brain, life and for people around you."Gallagher also slams Coldplay's Chris Martin, who says he has never taken drugs, and calls him an idiot for not doing so. "Doing drugs is the most beautiful thing about being in a rock band," the Oasis guitarist tells Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera.
Gallagher goes on about Martin and even U2's Bono who "don't play, they just talk about politics." "At a U2 or Coldplay concert, there is always a message about poor people or people dying from hunger," he said. "OK, but can't we just have a nice evening? Do we always have to feel guilty?"

Oasis was a flash in the pan compared to U2. Coldplay also has a better catalog. Oasis was the band of bickering brothers who never lived up to there "potential".

Love Oasis, but stupid lunk headed commentary here

Always nice to hear "the other side." You have to understand Noel to understand his comments ... I think he's hilarious.

Hey Noel,
You got it spot on!! I paid for a concert not to be bored by Bono's stodgy political agenda. Hold your poltical comments please and play the music.

fuckin a. coldplay sucks and have always sucked and u2 should have broken up after the joshua tree. its nice to see someone being honest and not avoiding the personal side of the artist by always talking about problems that really dont effect them on a day to day basis, they just stick their noses in it. if you really want to 'change' it donante all of the profits that you make from doing a stadium concert to charity. fat chance.

You sound intelligent-and the use of f------ a to begin a sentence just told the world you are a druggie and need a good dictionary to learn some new words to use in place of filty ones!

Does this man really think that doing drugs is the only thing beautiful about being in a rock band? Hmmm... maybe he forgot about the MUSIC. What about the fans? I'm all for Peter Tosh type humor, but this man is a moron. I'm glad I missed their concert last year.

this article isn't about music at all you idiot. it's about rock stars and their life style choices and opinions. drugs are beautiful by the way. victimless crimes shouldn't be crimes.

drugs are the shit yo especially heroin i do it everyday of my life and for all you dumb ass it is safer than cocaine if you know what you are doing less long term and short term damages to your body almost better for you than pot unless you shoot it!!!!!!!!
Jerryat 7-08-2009
Oasis rocks. Noel rocks. Plain and simple.

goodgreenganga you must be the biggest dumb ass in the world. Who would ever say that heroin is safe. My daughter was a heroin addict and it was the worse thing I ever saw. She did not shoot it either. It affected her whole life. She lost her jobs, her car, all her savings and has nothing. All she lived for was heroin. If you do it every day, you must be a real prize. Your comment was the dumbest thing I've ever read in my life.

Perfect response!

This guy should be on a reality show for has beens. But drugs are hella sick cool. Remember when they said they were bigger than the Beatles? Just another untalented pop band. Hootie & the Blowfish were more relevant they they. U2 and Coldplay suck as well... all just self important top 40 crap. Stick to real music like Sigur Ros, Animal Collective, Tool, Radiohead... fad music is pathetic. When someone like Noel Gallagher endorses drugs, it's like Glenn Beck talking about how cool acid is. Yes, rich, spoiled douchebags should feel guilty.

>Animal Collective
>real music
You almost had me there.
Honestly though, there is no right answer. Music can be a perfect way to channel one's personal beliefs, but it just as easily can be nothing more than a conduit for fun. Neither of these are inherently better than the other, they are simply different styles and schools of thought. The same goes for drugs. True, they can be detrimental, but not every single person who ever tries a drug is going to die a hermit who alienated everyone they knew. There is no right or wrong way to act, morality is abstract, relative.
Personally, I'm Straight Edge. I don't think this makes me any better or worse than anyone else, just different.
And, to further break down everyone's obnoxious preconceived notions, TASTE IS SUBJECTIVE.
So, the only way to define whether Oasis, U2, Coldplay, or anyone, are 'better' than any other band would be based on their basic musical skill, and not their actual style. And even then, just because someone can play something doesn't mean it's pleasant to hear it.
Stop being upset with people because of what they listen to, that's called elitism. If you don't like it, fine, they do. One could make the argument that it's better to be easily amused, because you are open to more things.

Sometimes shit like that annoys me. Seriously..
"OK, but can't we just have a nice evening? Do we always have to feel guilty?"
I see where hes coming from, but part of me is like.. that is so wrong.
Somethings like child soldiers (6 Mil die a year in 31 countries as young as 6 and 7) and Darfur would go overlooked if it werent for bands like U2.
Just because he's too selfish to use his popularity for good doesnt mean he has to knock others for it.

i really think we need to worry about all the starving and homeless children in our own country before we all feel the need to help other countries. Yes i know there are programs and we have more of this and that in the US and yes we should be grateful for what we have. But seriously all the money and food and la la la we send over there when there are more than enough needy children here makes no sense to me. How can we help another country when we can barely take care of our own!

Ok, Oasis is my favorite band EVER and I knew they had a drug habit going. Especially, the Gallaghers and I'm glad Noel says he's not doing them anymore (even though I'm sure he still drinks like a fish), but drugs are not beautiful. I'm a recovering addict who just recently relapsed and can say first hand it was no beautiful trip for me.
I don't think this guy is the best influence on budding musicians.....but I still love the music. That won't change.
Gabriellaat 7-09-2009
I think Chris Martin is adorable..and I love Coldplay, but thats just me.
I think Noel is right though..being in a "rock band" does give you reason to be wild and do crazy things but he must have forgotten that because he and his brother were so effed up all the time it ruined the band. They could have been something, someones, but they chose to make the drugs and the fighting more important than the music...
and where are they now?
Oh yeah, nowhere.

Not that U2 & Coldplay are far superior - okay, totally different universe than Oasis - but, what he says is kinda, sorta true...Can't we all just go to a concert & enjoy it sometimes...I'm getting a little tired of being preached to by someone I'm there to see perform/I paid to see perform not lecture...just a thought :)
