Michael Jackson Memorial Brings Thousands to Los Angeles

Like much of his life, Tuesday's Michael Jackson memorial service looks to be an over-the-top spectacle attended by thousands of fans and throngs of media. News outlets are reporting that after a private service for family members at the Forest Lawn cemetery in Hollywood Hills at 11AM ET, Jackson's body will be transported to the Staples Center for the public memorial. The lucky 17,500 fans who won tickets to the memorial -- 10,000 in the Staples Center and 7,500 across the street at the Nokia Theater -- have been filing in since 9 AM ET, while police prevent anyone without tickets from entering the one-block radius around the venues. Police estimate that over 250,000 fans will crowd the sidewalks despite pleas for them to stay home.

Sometime after the private funeral, the public service will include appearances by Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, Usher, Lionel Richie, Kobe Bryant, Jennifer Hudson, John Mayer and Martin Luther King III. Jackson's longtime friend, Elizabeth Taylor, and the mother of two of his children, Debbie Rowe, will not be attending. For continuing updates and photos, visit PopEater.
