Fresh off performances in England at Hard Rock Calling in Hyde Park and the Glastonbury festival, Toronto synth-pop stars Metric's trip across the pond boasted one more memorable moment. "We were leaving Glastonbury and driving back to London when the driver screams out all of a sudden, 'Look, it's Stonehenge on the side of the road,'" Metric guitarist Jimmy Shaw tells Spinner.
"Emily yells out even louder, 'Pull over!' The car screams off the highway onto this little dirt road, and we pull around the back of Stonehenge," he continues. "But it's just closing so we're looking at Stonehenge through the fence when all of a sudden [drummer] Joules [Scott-Key] just starts going ballistic. 'It's ... it's Spinal Tap! They're here!' So we followed them to the parking lot."
"They all escaped except Harry Shearer," pipes in Emily Haines, noting the mock-rocker and 'Simpsons' voice actor was still wearing eyeliner from the band's headlining slot the night before. "The timing was just unbelievable. They were just driving by and had never been to Stonehenge. They'd done the exact same thing as us, like, 'Y'know, we should probably stop by there at some point.'"

Metric has no plans to stop making memories anytime soon. Hot on the heels of their most successful U.S. tour ever, the band is scheduled to play David Letterman on July 13, and visit MTV's 'It's On With Alexa Chung' the following day. Performances on Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Fallon and Carson Daly will follow later in the year, and Metric is also playing Vancouver's Virgin Festival on July 26, slotted between Sonic Youth and headliner Ben Harper.
As Haines sagely notes, "Hot bill."
