    Potent Quotables: Iggy Rips Rockers

"[They're] idiot thugs with guitars ... Anyone from Smashing Pumpkins to – what's the one with Fred Durst?" --Iggy Pop

The punk legend told us all how he really felt about the state of rock recently when he accused Billy Corgan and Limp Bizkit of producing, in his words, "crappy music."

I actually agree with Iggy about the crappy music, and everybody really should agree with the man who had so much (not) good music in his career. Go ahead, quick, name a hit by Iggy.

"Go ahead, quick, name a hit by Iggy."

    Are you kidding?

    "Lust For Life"
    "China Girl"
    "The Passenger"
    "Search and Destroy"

That is off the top of my head. Iggy Pop has influenced tons of people and there are tribute albums to him.

THose bands he criticized are probably influenced by him.

    China Girl
    Lust For Life
    The Passenger
    I Wanna Be Your Dog
Raw Power (one of Rolling Stones top 100 albums of all time)

There are many more though they did not get the air play that those above did. Iggy is to Rock and Punk what Elvis was to Rock & Roll. Go back to your trash bubble gum mainstream music when you don't know what you are talking about. Almost every Rock & Punk band today that is worth hearing will credit Iggy & The Stooges with heavily influencing their talents! Just because you don't hear them on your Michael Jackson and Madonna station doesn't mean it isn't out there, it just avoids you as it should!

Iggy is a legend. Forget any singles. Singles get played out anyways. But what about Lust For Life, Real Wild child, I'm Bored, and the Passenger to name a few. He's got a biopic coming out with Elijah Wood set to play Iggy even though I think Elijah Wood isn't the right actor for the role but we'll see. I grew up listening to Punk Rock. Iggy is one of my main inspirations as a frontman for my punk band Authentic Sellout.

Now I consider Iggy Pop a musical genius. Rock n Roll is dying right now. Michael Jackson is proof of that. He was dubbed the King of Pop and was one of the most influential musicians and entertainers of all time. He's a freak just like Iggy but in a different way. My point is that musicians like Fred Durst and Billy Corgan are assholes and write some decent songs but mostly ego driven crap. I have met both of them nd they are they are dicks. I don't care who you are attitude is everything and as a musician and people never forget that. So they need to spend more time writing good music rather than being cool. Iggy Pop can definitely do that and has for many years. I like to think he followed in Jim morrison's footsteps.

The 16 shots of straight bourbon and line of cocaine kicking in all at once, and him hitting the cheap hotel room floor....
That was definately not only a a number one hit, but it was also the only decent sound that has ever came out of him...

I dont think its a question of Iggy having written hits or great songs. I do not write music but I have my opinion, as I am sure you do yours about todays mostly crappy music and its his opinion. Its funny how in these articles how people automatically make assumptions rather then listening or reading what is being said. It doesnt take a good actor to see a bad actors work, its doesnt take a great chef to know when someone else makes something that taste like crap. Such narrow minds out there.
