Kim Deal suddenly seems to have a lot on her plate. First, the Breeders, the band she formed with her sister Kelley, released an EP called 'Fate to Fatal' this past spring and then they curated the U.K.'s legendary All Tomorrow's Parties festival. Meanwhile, her other band, the Pixies, just released an ambitious box-set called 'Minotaur,' which contains the band's entire canon housed inside a giant art centerpiece. And now, before the Pixies' recently announced European fall tour, she's heading out with the Breeders for a Stateside summer trek. That's a lot different from what Deal was up to last year around this time. Speaking to Spinner recently, she revealed that when the Breeders wrapped up their spring 2008 tour, which was centered around a main stage Coachella appearance, she actually had some rare downtime. "I was working on the 'Fate to Fatal' song downstairs in the basement, and I was on Prednisone," Deal tells Spinner. "And I was freaking out over this drug. I was on it because it was the summer and I was doing a lot of weeding and stuff -- I live with my parents and I try to help them with their yard work -- and I got poison ivy all over me."
"I was strung out on the Prednisone, man! It was crazy! That drug is nuts!" she says, half-jokingly. "Have you had it before? I kinda liked it. Whatever."
So, kids, if you ever wondered what rock stars do in their downtime, some of them do yard work for their parents. But seriously, Kim, hire a gardener. You've got tour dates coming up and we can't have you hopped up on immunosuppressant drugs when you've got shows to do. The tour kicks off August 5 in Newport, KY and includes a two-night stand at New York's Bowery Ballroom before wrapping up in Columbus, OH on August 23.
