582 Brit Drummers Beat Their Way to a New World Record

If you had a drum kit, rhythm and lived in the U.K., you could have taken part in one massive, record-setting drum session.

A total of 582 drummers gathered at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena yesterday afternoon and smashed the world record for the most drummers playing the same beat in unison, previously set in 2006 with 533 taking part in the U.S. The group played together for 10 minutes straight.

Dan Powell of the glam band Slade was more than happy to play with the other drummers who ranged from 5-year-old prodigies to rock vets in their 50s. "I'm so happy we smashed the record, and we've set a very high target for them to beat," Powell, who was ecstatic that it was held in his hometown, told London's Daily Mail. "I find it fantastic that musicians now have a voice and can get involved in something as wonderful as this record."

However, the event was more than just gaining bragging rights. Titled "Stick It to MS," the drum fest raised about £20,000 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society, which organizers hope will rise to £50,000 in the coming days.

Although it's obvious these Brits have beat the record, the organizers still need to send their videos and other paperwork to Guinness World Records headquarters to be officially verified. Check out this video to see yesterday's drum session.
