"I'd never want to be Gene Simmons, an old man who puts on makeup to entertain kids, like a clown going to work." --Trent Reznor

In a recent interview, the Nine Inch Nails frontman defended his decision to go on an indefinite hiatus from music.

Trent Reznor is just bitter, because by his own admittance he was a HUGE Alice Cooper fan when he was a kid. When he found out Alice Cooper just put on make up to sell music to kids, and off stage he is an articulate intelligent human being, he was CRUSHED. Trent admitted this long ago. So, this jab at Gene Simmons is part of his bitter feelings for his past Alice Cooper worship!

I couldnt give two shits about either of these bands Detroit Rock CIty may be the only Kiss song I actually like among hundreds that are awful. I wouldnt call them talentless, but they def went the sell-out route. Of course, at the time, selling out meant so much money, coke, and groupies, I doubt anyone could say no, but after about a year, you could say I'm not releasing this trash anymore. Gene is an ugly sell-out pure and simple, but not without talent.

Reznor has made some damn original material and huge strides in the studio, and is far less of a sell-out.
I dont get a cogent message from him, but he has said some great things. He's definitely above KISS in music and meaning, but he's not so good lately that I care to hear his opinions about such an obvious target. Its not dignified.

Who did Gene Simmons pave the road for??? Is that why he copies everyone??? Because he paved the way??? Is that why he copied Ozzy and put his family on Reality TV because he paved the way??? Is that why he copied Insane Clown Posse's Carnival of Carnage and renamed it some lame crap "Psycho Circus"??? Everything Gene Simmons and Kiss did, they yanked from someone greater than them, even their damn music was ripped off of other people, they can't even make their own sound like NIN can. In the music world Trent Reznor is a freaking god compared to that reject. And Trent Reznor is a true musician, he made music for his fans, not for a buck, that's why he announced on tour he'd rather his fans download his music than buy it, while Gene Simmons blamed the download community for the collapse of the record industry instead of standing up and admitting that maybe the record industry needed to quit selling CD's for $20 a pop with only one good track put down on it. And yea, we all know Trent Reznor did drugs and alcohol, while Gene Simmons claims to have never drank or never smoked, that's great for him, but at least if he'd been drunk or stoned, he'd have excuses for all the foul things he's said about people in the media. What Trent said about Gene is mild compared to what Gene Simmons has said about other people in the media. Trent rocks, and I wish him luck with his hiatus, I've got plenty of NIN music to keep my sound system rockin.

You're right, Trent, you aren't like Gene Simmons. His band, Kiss, has a following that is still passionate after 30 years, so they still have fans that want to see them live. While you are a gifted performer, no one will care care about your band 30 years from now. In fact, the only reason that anyone ever cared about NIN is that you had one song that had a gruesome video, and you said F--k in it. I wouldn't comment about rock and roll legends when Johnny Cash did a much better version of one of my songs than I ever did of any of my songs.
