Australian indie rockers Dappled Cities' first single off their forthcoming fourth album, 'Zounds,' was generated by some serious rumination. "'The Price' emerged from sitting and thinking steadily about war and civilizational strife," guitarist/vocalist Tim Derricourt tells Spinner. "But it's also intensely personal and hopefully the grand epic nature of the song comes across with an equal measure of inwardness and ponderousness."
'Zounds' belies its small title with expansive, experimental songs that certainly bow to life's big questions, while exploring sonic variations, too. "We're real proud of it," Derricourt says of the album. "It's our most intense and also our most varied album to date. The songwriting came together pretty quickly, split between living in New York city and our home town of Sydney, but when it came to recording and mixing the whole process became a lot more full on and crazy. As a result the album's highs are our noisiest and messiest yet and the down moments are the most reflective and sentimental we've ever made."
