Fountains of Wayne's Adam Schlesinger Gets Emmy Nod

Call it a case of Christmas in July. Adam Schlesinger, of Fountains of Wayne and Tinted Windows fame, and David Javerbaum, the former executive producer of 'The Daily Show,' landed themselves an Emmy nomination for 'Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics' for their song, "Much Worse Things,' which was part of Comedy Central's holiday special, 'A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All!' Schlesinger and Javerbaum wrote eight original holiday-themed songs for the show, which premiered Nov. 23 and featured song performances by Colbert, Jon Stewart, Elvis Costello, Feist, John Legend, Toby Keith, and Willie Nelson. "It was a while ago that it aired, so there's a bit of a time delay, but I was very pleasantly surprised," Schlesinger tells Spinner. "David has won multiple Emmys, so I'm sure it's not such a big deal. Though," he adds. "I don't think he got one for a song before, so he's probably just as excited."
Schlesinger, who's currently busy with Tinted Windows, the pop rock supergroup he shares with Cheap Trick's Bun E. Carlos, Taylor Hanson of Hanson, and ex-Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha, is no stranger to award nods either. So far, he's received Oscar, Tony (for the Broadway adaptation of John Waters' movie "Cry-Baby," which he also co-wrote with Javerbaum), Grammy and Golden Globe nominations.
"That's true, but I've never won any of these awards though. So it keeps me in check, keeps my ego properly deflated," he laughs. " No, I've been so lucky. I've worked on so many fun projects with smart and interesting people, and in a lot of different ways. That, to me, is really the motivation. Being involved in all these different things keeps things fresh."
See if Schlesinger can finally bring home the prize when the 61st Emmy Awards show airs September 20 on CBS.
