Sure, there are plenty of big time summer festivals featuring all the hottest hipster acts, but if you want some real, down and dirty rocking, check out Mötley Crüe's summer festival tour, Crüe Fest 2, which kicks off this Sunday in Camden, N.J. Featuring Godsmack, Theory of a Deadman, Drowning Pool and Charm City Devils, fans can expect an outrageous spectacle in typical Crüe fashion."It's going to be amazing, better than the first one," Tommy Lee tells Spinner. "The success of the last one and the larger bands are going to drive it home even further."When it comes to the band's performance, many things will be the same as last summer's debut of the festival, which featured Buckcherry, Papa Roach and Trapt, but fans will be getting one special treat. "We'll have the standard things you come to expect with Mötley," the Crüe drummer says. "We're going to be playing the 'Dr. Feelgood' album in its entirety from top to bottom, which we've never done before. I think the fans will dig that and I'm certain we're going to."
Lee also guarantees a "visually over-the-top" stage show. While you'll have to see what they have in store, Lee will reveal one possible concept involving his drums. "I've had this idea for years where I'd build a rollercoaster but instead of a car, I'd have a drum set," Lee says. "I'd have two rumble seats in the back where I could grab a couple fans, strap their asses in, and take them for a ride during a drum solo. I'm not sure if it's possible in an amphitheater, but I'm going to look into it."
And, of course, wherever Crüe goes, there's bound to be trouble, just like February's incident involving Nikki Sixx cursing out a female fan after she threw a water bottle at him. "I think he feels bad about that because he realized afterwards that it was the bottle he threw out," Lee says. "There's always some sort of incident with us, like a lawsuit or somebody jumps in the crowd and we start a fight. I'm sure it'll be retarded. It always is."
