The release of Stellastarr's new album 'Civilized' marks the band's return to the playing field after an unofficial four-year hiatus between albums. "We took a bit of time off and then regrouped, and then wrote a record that was, for us, back to basics," says frontman Sean Christensen. "We decided to go down that avenue." As previously reported, during the band's downtime, Christensen was hard at work completing two screenplays which are currently going through the gears in Hollywood. But the break also served another purpose as well.
"I was having some throat issues," Christensen admits to Spinner. "I started singing a little bit differently and it sort of changed the way that I approach melodies and that sort of thing. With my vocal melodies, I found new avenues to go down to sing the songs. So that was a big change for me."
Christensen says that, while 'Civilized' adopts his new approach to singing, "it also reflects a lot of the things we were doing on the first record, which is the rock." Sounds about right. With the new album finally on shelves, Stelllastarr is back on the road, hitting venues nationally through August.
