In a display of Brooklyn rapper solidarity, Jay-Z has been confirmed to replace the Beastie Boys at the All Points West Festival in Jersey City. Concert organizers broke the news after the Beasties announced they were canceling all of their planned summer concerts -- including their July 31 headlining spot at APW -- while Adam Yauch (aka MCA) recovers from cancer in his parotid gland.Although he'll be making his first American festival appearance at All Points West, Jay-Z is quite familiar with the responsibility after performing at a slew of European fests like Glastonbury and Roskilde last summer. The gig comes in advance of his upcoming studio album, 'The Blueprint 3', which boasts collaborations with everyone from Rihanna to MGMT. As it happens, MGMT are also performing at APW but aren't scheduled until Sunday, August 2, so a live collaboration isn't quite a foregone conclusion.
As previously reported, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have stepped up to cover the Beastie Boys' headlining slot at Lollapalooza. Meanwhile, any All Points West ticket holders who are less than ecstatic about Jay-Z filling in for the Beasties, can get a refund for the July 31 date only at their respective point of purchase.
