Alison Sudol Twitters Herself Into a Fine Frenzy
- Posted on Jul 24th 2009 3:00PM by Spinner
In honor of A Fine Frenzy (@AFineFrenzy) reaching one million Twitter followers this week, and to celebrate the upcoming release of her second album, Spinner (@SpinnerTweet) conducted our first ever Twitterview with the singer-songwriter. The girl behind the band -- and the computer -- is 24-year-old Alison Sudol, whose album 'Bomb in the Birdcage' drops on September 8. Sudol talked music and answered questions from fans about her love life, her favorite Camera Obscura songs, her thoughts on Michael Jackson's passing and the things she can't live without. How did writing this album compare to when you wrote your first? (via @cratic)
This album was incredibly fun to write. I felt much less limited as an artist and much more interested in branching out. I also wanted to explore more styles of music and let loose a bit more.
Congrats on surpassing 1,000,000 followers on Twitter this week. How did you celebrate? (via @regtopher)
Thank you! I did a little dance and went to bed. Am I doing this right? First Twitterview.
We're each other's firsts then. It's our first Twitterview.
I feel like we're in high school. I like it! Minus the braces and the social trauma.
What is your favorite song from your new album? (via @SamReisman)
It depends on my mood. Sometimes it's 'Electric Twist,' sometimes 'Elements,' sometimes 'What I Wouldn't Do.'
Are you single? (via @BANANARAMA79)
Haha, um, yes, I am single.
You just made a lot of folks happy with that response.
Blushing ... next! Haha.
Black or green olives? (via @mo_et)
I like both, but I think I'd have to say green olives. They remind me of being in Europe.
What's the most personal song you've written on either album? (via @prendulic)
They're all personal. I don't know that I could really pick one in particular, as they all mean a lot to me.
What are 3 things you couldn't live without? (via @tweet_der)
My piano, my loved ones and joy -- joy as a noun, though I do have a friend named Joy and she's lovely as well.
We're getting a lot of tour questions. So, in general, what are your upcoming tour plans?
It looks like we'll be starting to tour in the fall; everything is still solidifying now. We can't wait to get on the road!
You're a Camera Obscura fan. Favorite song? And which song of theirs would you love to cover? (via @ashleyiasimone)
Oooh good one! I love 'Hey Lloyd...,' 'Country Mile,' 'Lunar Sea,' all their sunny fun ones. I don't know what we'd cover! Covers are so hard to pick!
What do you think about Michael Jackson's death? (via @OooNadineooO)
I think it's terribly sad that Michael Jackson is gone. He was an incredible artist -- a legend. My condolences to his children and family.
How did you come up with the band's name? (via @RimAaWdinosaurR)
[I] had a bunch of books open on a table, "a fine frenzy" jumped off a page of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' [Shakespeare] and it was just right, though every now and then I wonder if it's a bit ... flowery.
Of all the acclaim you've received, whose praise meant the most to you? (via @rollthebones18)
Wow. Great question. Need to think on that one for a second. Watching Sir George Martin sing along as I sang 'Across the Universe' in front of him at a tribute concert.
Wow. That's never to be forgotten. Congrats on the new album. Thanks for this little chat and best of luck on the road!
Thanks so much! This was fun! Have a lovely day (or night), everybody! Xx
