Foreigner, 'When It Comes to Love' -- Song Premiere

Although only one original member of Foreigner -- Mick Jones -- remains, somehow the band's 40-year plus sound is maintained. Case in point: their new single, 'When It Comes to Love.' "Mick understands what the sound and vibe of Foreigner is supposed to be," says Kelly Hansen -- the band's lead singer since 2005 -- of the song written by Jones, Hansen and producer Marti Frederiksen. "Regardless of the members, there is a definite musical thread.
"I'm standing next to the guy who wrote and played all those original riffs," Hansen continues. "Everybody in this band has worked hard to really think about, listen to and understand what elements bring this band to what it's supposed to be. I've seen other bands who go out there who don't play the parts properly, they don't care, it doesn't sound right and there's an attitude. We all care about what we're doing, we're putting our energy into it. I respect this music and want to do it the justice it deserves."
At the same time, Hansen knows it's important that they each bring their own personality to the table. "The classic question for me was about filling [original vocalist] Lou Gramm's shoes," he says. "Well, I'm not trying to fill Lou's shoes, I'm filling my own shoes. That's what I have to do because if I don't bring myself and my own sincerity to this, it's not going to work anyway."
The band's new album, 'Can't Slow Down,' will be released September 29. Listen to the first single, 'When It Comes to Love,' exclusively below.

Eh, not bad but certainly not great. After waiting for sooo many years for new material I can't say that I'm impressed. It's OK. Hopefully the rest of the CD will have a much harder vibe to it. Please don't be another Mr Moonlight.

Love it!
If you go back to most of the Foreigner albums there is usually one love song on each album such as Waiting for a Girl Like You & I Want to Know What Love is. I assume this is the love song that will be on the new album and the rest of the new songs will have a harder vibe.

Thank you, Stuart!!! I agree that Foreigner always has a great ballad or two on each CD. I really love this song -- bonded with it immediately!!! Looking forward to hearing the other new songs!

That not exactly true. Foreigner didn't dare release love ballads in the early years(the first three albums) when Ian McDonald was in the band. They didn't start writing sappy ballads until 4. I'm a day-one diehard but this tune doesn't do much for me...very generic without even having the classic "Foreigner sound". It seems to be missing something. Oh well, I'm more interested in the rockers anyway...bring it on! :)

KC,
"Starrider" and "Fool For You Anyway" are both on the first album. I would consider both of those ballads. I enjoy the variety. "Too Late" is on this new CD and it has a great rock vibe. Hope you enjoy the whole CD!

Love it!! simply, it is going to be a hit. Kelly's vocals are outstanding. When it comes to great music you can always rely on Mick Jones and company to deliver the goods. Cannot wait to hear the rest of the album.
