A.A. Bondy Survives 'Weird' Tour With Conor Oberst

Fresh off touring as the opener for Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band, folk troubadour A.A. Bondy has had a couple weeks to reflect on life on the road as he gears up for another jaunt, this time headlining his own venues across the country.

"Conor is good people. His people are good people too," Bondy tells Spinner. "I saw some weird s---. I suppose that happens when you get out in the world anywhere. A lady cop holding an axe. Large, I mean real big birds flying over the interstates at night. The whole thing turns into a weird ride at Disneyland. I disassociate from time to time."

Doesn't everybody? Then again, we'd expect disassociation from rock stars, not folk singers who are supposed to stay grounded and put the pieces back together again. Yet, it's understandable for Bondy, as he explains that his summer jam has been the sound of an engine braking and "choirs of drunken voices at the end of the night. And silence."

We can respect that. In addition to his September tour, Bondy will release his latest disc, 'When the Devil's Loose' on Fat Possum, on September 1.
