Carrie Brownstein Wants You to Pick Her Theme Song

Having some past hard rockin' street cred can score a musician some byline time. Former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic blogs about music and politics for the Seattle Weekly, while former Guns N' Roses turned Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan lends his financial wisdom in the weekly Playboy column 'Duffonomics.' But former Sleater-Kinney guitarist/vocalist Carrie Brownstein has been at it the longest. A year and a few months after parting ways with her punk trio in 2006, Brownstein launched her "descriptive as opposed to merely prescriptive" music blog for NPR, 'Monitor Mix.' No stranger to making funny video clips -- like her encounter with Phish fans -- Brownstein is set to launch her own 'Monitor Mix Video Blog' in the near future. But before the vlog gets up and running, it needs a theme song.
Brownstein asked devoted 'Monitor Mix' followers to submit short (a minute at the longest) jingles that crossed any genre and preferably used lyrics that aptly rhymed with mix and monitor. If you haven't gotten started yet, don't bother -- the deadline was August 3. What you can do is vote for one of 10 finalists right now before the contest ends next Tuesday.
We're putting our money on 'Brain of Fire' or the 'Hilarious Posters' submissions, although you've got to hand it to Ricky Cancro's sunny Beach Boys-inspired lyrics: "When you need your music blog fix/Point your favorite browser to 'Monitor Mix'/If you wanna know what Carrie thinks of Styx/Use your mobile phone to check on 'Monitor Mix.'" Catchy, isn't it?
