Andrew Bird Whistles While He Works at Lollapalooza

The rain finally let up just in time for Andrew Bird's homecoming show at Lollapalooza on Friday. En route to a European tour, Bird showcased his musical versatility, showing his skills on the violin, mandolin and glockenspiel. But he impressed the most with his whistling talents, exhibiting on favorites including 'Scythian Empire.'

Bird ran through a bevy of songs from 'Weather Systems' (pretty apropo, no?), 'Armchair Apocrypha' and 'Noble Beast.' He was relaxed with the Chicago crowd throughout his extended 75-minute set, making, at one point, a self-referential joke, promising, "there would be snacks." He delivered on his promise with a solid rendition of 'Tables and Chairs.'
