Bono and the Edge's attempt to merge the rock concert experience with musical theater has been put on hold, according to the New York Daily News. The estimated $45 million Broadway production of 'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark,' a collaboration between the U2 rockers, who contributed music and lyrics, and director Julie Taymor, best known for her Broadway adaptation of 'The Lion King,' is experiencing money issues.

Despite having locked in big name stars like 'The Wrestler' star Evan Rachel Wood for the part of Mary Jane Watson and Tony award-winning actor Alan Cumming as the Green Goblin, the production is experiencing "unexpected cash-flow problems," according to Hello Entertainment, one of the production's investors. "Plans necessary for this correction are in hand now and it is expected that activities, including work in the theater, will resume within the immediate future," the company further assured fans.

Even with the current delay, 'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark' is still expected to go into previews starting February 25, although no specific opening date has been set. A snippet of Bono and the Edge's contribution can be heard on the musical's website.
