The Pretenders Made Juliette Lewis Cry

Juliette Lewis has opened for Muse and the Killers recently, played with the Who at a festival, rocked Lollapalooza and so much more. But her current gig, opening for Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders, is a special one for the actress/rocker. "I cried when we got the offer for the Pretenders tour," she tells Spinner. "Obviously she's a hero to many people as a rock 'n' roll artist and a female. So it is a real special occasion for me."For us too, as the uniting of Hynde, Lewis and Chan Marshall, aka Cat Power, is unquestionably one of our favorite tours of the year. And while she may be a bit biased, Lewis concurs. "It's such a diverse, but great bill that kind of belongs together in a weird way," she says.
Prior to the tour's kickoff, Lewis hadn't met either Hynde or Marshall, though she says of the latter, "She's friends with a few friends of mine." And while she wasn't worried about getting nervous at meeting either of her tour mates, she admits she still is in awe in the music world. While she hasn't been what she would call star struck, there were a few people who left her mouth agape.
"Just watching Queens of the Stone Age, I'm a little 'Uhhh.' seeing Josh Homme, he's a force to be reckoned with," she says. "But Roger Daltrey was the one. We talked about the rain, having to wear plastic bags 'cause it was raining and he was just talking about everywhere on his tour it was raining. They're lovely."
