Indigo Girls' Amy Ray Reflects on Les Paul
Upon the passing of Les Paul Thursday morning at the age of 94, we asked Indigo Girls' Amy Ray, an avid Les Paul player, to share her thoughts on the guitar legend and his influence. Ray sent the following words to Spinner from the road. When I think about the passing of Les Paul, I figure he's somewhere in Rock 'n' Roll Heaven. We owe him a lot -- the tone of the Gibson Les Paul, the feel and weight of its solid body, the way tracks lay on one another in the recording studio, the innovative ideas that led to so many things that form the heart of rock 'n' roll and electric jazz.
Long live the soul of Les Paul -- the inventor, rocker, jazzer, rough and tumble pursuer of life's magic.
