Sonic Youth Booked to Perform on 'Gossip Girl'

Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore will encore his Season Two appearance on 'Gossip Girl' -- he jammed with Be Your Own Pet's Jemina Pearl on the Ramones' 'Sheena is a Punk Rocker' -- with another cameo on the steamy CW show. Sadly, Moore will not be showing us his acting talents by playing an indie-rocker-turned-father-figure to Blake Lively's Serena van der Woodsen (The show already has one of those.)

Instead, according to one of the series' writer's, Moore and the rest of Sonic Youth will soundtrack a "special event," rumored to be the wedding of the show's standout adult characters Rufus and Lily. But don't expect Sonic Youth's trademark distortion and fuzz. The band, who released their latest album 'The Eternal' in June, are going acoustic as well as digging deep in the vault for the guest spot with a softer rendition of 'Starpower,' from 1986's 'EVOL.' The footage will air during the fifth episode this season, which premieres Sept. 14 at 9/8c on the CW network.

Moore is no stranger to prime time. In addition to last season's appearance on 'Gossip Girl,' he, bandmate/wife Kim Gordon and their teen daughter Coco Gordon Moore showed up on a 2006 episode of 'Gilmore Girls.'

If fans are pissed about this decision by the band, just remember -- it's not like they're doing another deal with Starbucks.
