George Michael Arrested After Car Accident

George Michael was reportedly arrested in Berkshire, England in the early hours of Friday morning after his Land Rover crashed into the back of a truck on the A34 motorway. The singer was detained by police on suspicion that he'd been driving while under the influence of "drink or drugs," according to the BBC.

The owner of the truck, Laurie Rowe, said the singer, 46, "seemed completely disorientated, like he had no idea what was going on. He looked totally dazed and even tried to climb into the cab of my lorry. He kept saying he was worried he would go to jail," she told the Daily Mail.

But Michael was released without charge after five hours.

The accident comes just two months after the singer began driving again after a two-year ban. In June 2007, he plead guilty to driving while on drugs after police found him slumped at the wheel of his parked Mercedes in 2006.

Last summer, Michael embarked on his first U.S. tour in 17 years. But the fall brought Michael more trouble in a string of public incidents, which began with a 1998 arrest for lewd behavior in a public bathroom. Last September marked his second bathroom stall arrest, this time for possession of class A and C drugs.

But the singer has been apologetic and good-humored about it all, issuing a public statement soon after last year's arrest:

"I want to apologize to my fans for screwing up again," he said, "and to promise them I'll sort myself out. And to say sorry to everybody else, just for boring them."
