Never one for the mainstream, Yo La Tengo decided to film their video for 'Nothing to Hide' at Lost Weekend Records, a tiny independent record store in Columbus, Ohio. The premise? A basic in-store performance. Sounds like standard fare, perhaps, but there is a clever catch: that's not actually Yo La Tengo performing. It's their younger Matador label mates, Times New Viking, filling in as stunt doubles. "We obviously cannot act, as people," Viking's Adam Elliott tells Spinner. "But we can and will always be able to act like indie rockers or else we are out of a job."
The video, directed by Pelham Johnston and Brandon Reichard, is filled with inside jokes and a weird sense of a parallel universe in which Yo La Tengo and Times New Viking have switched places, but Ted Nugent records are still best left in the bin. You'll see what we mean.
