Chad Smith Won't Use Will Ferrell Resemblance for Evil

Red Hot Chili Peppers and Chickenfoot drummer Chad Smith gets it -- he looks like Will Ferrell. "People come up to me in airports and they're asking for my autograph not because I'm the drummer for the Chili Peppers. They really think I'm Will Ferrell," he tells Spinner. "And I'm nice to these people. [I say] 'No, I'm not.' But they're like, 'I loved you in 'Old School.' You're so funny.'"

Smith tried to address that confusion when he joined his Chickenfoot mates recently on the 'Tonight Show' by wearing an "I'm Not Will Ferrell" t-shirt. "I thought, 'What better way to dispel the rumor than on national television?' I had their little prop department make me a t-shirt," he says.

It seems only fair that Ferrell get a chance to respond. We asked Smith if he'd send a shirt to his doppelganger, but he says fans may take care of that for him. "In Kansas City, this girl got up on stage and she had a picture of him as Ron Burgundy and it said, 'I am not Chad Smith,'" he says. "So funny. That's the first one I've seen."

Given that both Ferrell and Smith are public figures and live in Los Angeles, the two must have met at some point. Smith says yes, but only once. "When he was still on 'Saturday Night Live' and there was a movie called 'The Ladies Man.' So Will is in there, and there was a screening in L.A. I went to it and afterward they had the buffet line and you could go eat, so I walk up and I'm getting my second shrimp skewer," Smith recalls. "There's a guy next to me doing the same thing and then Will Ferrell is next to him and so I kind of glance over. Right at the time I'm turning to leave the table and start walking back, the guy between us splits and both Will and I turn kind of at the same time. It was classic. He eyeballs me up and down, and he goes, 'You're very handsome' and walks away. I was like, 'Hey, funny f---ing guy. I like that.'"

Perhaps it's because they've met or have friends in common, but Smith only uses his physical resemblance to one of the planet's biggest movie stars for good, even though he points out he could do a lot of damage to Ferrell's reputation. "People impersonate people on purpose, but I don't want to do that. It would be so easy. I could walk into a club, say I'm Will Ferrell and start spanking strippers. Next thing you know it's all over the place," he says. "That's not a bad idea."

With the way Dan Marino looks like now, you could add him to these two, and you'd have triplets. Dan kind of looks like these two now.

Chad's been around longer than Will and I think Chad's act as a musicians is much better than Will's act as a comedian or actor.. don't get me wrong Will is great at somethings but Chad is great at all he does... DRUMMING...

I remember when me and my brother went to see the RHCP at Irving Plaza in NYC, we kept joking on Chad saying how he's Will Ferell's stunt double. Good times.

    Different Patricia.

I considered complaining about the unwanted commercial interuptions on these boards, but they are better than telemarketers. Right?
Who knows why they do that, maybe it keeps them off Welfare, or subsidizes their Disability Incomes, or Child Support Incomes.
    Who's to say?
Those of us who are blessed enough that we don't need to waste our internet time posting ads, ...let's just thank G-d for that, & live & let live.
There are plenty of other things for us to happily argue about.

About Will Ferrell & Chad Smith, somehow that look works much better for Will Ferrell, than it does for Chad Smith.
But I love the Red Hot Chilly Peppers.
    And, Will Smith is hilarious.
