The film 'Michael Jackson: This Is It' -- the movie using footage of the final rehearsals for the pop star's planned run of 50 London concerts -- will have a limited two-week run in cinemas in October. And Sony Pictures Entertainment has announced tickets will be available from Sept. 27, over a month before the film is shown on screens from Oct. 28.
The film will make use of the more than 80 hours of rehearsals footage shot ahead of the 50-date residency at London's O2 venue, which was supposed to begin in July. Jackson died of heart failure on June 25, aged 50.
"As we began assembling the footage for the motion picture we realised we captured something extraordinary, unique and very special," the film's director, Kenny Ortega, said."For the first time ever, fans will see Michael as they have never seen him before -- this great artist at work. It is raw, emotional, moving and powerful footage," he added.
Sony Pictures Entertainment are believed to have paid AEG Live -- the concert promoters behind the shows -- $60M for the rights to make a feature-length film out of the footage.
