Amy Winehouse Makes Surprise Appearance at V Festival

The first day at the UK's V Festival saw the Specials take the stage in the sunshine at Hylands Park, Chelmsford, one of the festival's two venues. The ska punk pioneers played a raucous set that NME called the day's liveliest, but the experience was certainly colored by a surprise guest spot by Amy Winehouse.

A suit-clad Terry Hall formally introduced Winehouse as "our good friend" before the singer strolled on stage in a Specials t-shirt and black jeans for the final two songs of the set. "Alright?" she asked the crowd prior to launching into 'You're Wondering Now,' one of her cover favorites. "What a day, eh? Sun's out, Specials are here. Count yourself lucky." They closed the set with the band's politically-charged 1981 single 'Ghost Town.'

Winehouse had been lying low in St. Lucia for much of 2009. She made a botched appearance at the island's jazz festival in May and canceled a gig at Island Records' 50th anniversary party in London. The Specials, meanwhile, are in the middle of a UK tour that has another 15 stops following this weekend's gig.

The V Festival concludes today with performances from dozens of acts including Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and MGMT. Oasis were set to close the night, but canceled because Liam Gallagher is suffering from viral laryngitis, reports the BBC. Snow Patrol is now doing the honors.

Not always, she really needs to get herself together!

I was such a fan, when she first came out, but now I just think it's just a waist of good talent, she's destroying herself!

Then why are you here watching? Nobody ties you down and forces you to endure her music, so, why punish yourself? Just ignore her and move along with your crabby life.
Great to have you back Amy, you're brilliant, PLEASE take care of yourself, your fans love you and want you around for a long time to come!

I think it's very interesting that you choose to call her a skank, when its a term that refers to a slut, someone who is very promiscuous, usually having sexual intercourse with more then one person. At least in the Usa, thats what we use the word for. I think it's very interesting you chose to call her that when one of the biggest reasons for her drug addiction and crazy behavior was because she was so in love(in an obsessive way) with her husband. To the point that not even her own life mattered as long as she was with him. So if someone is so obsessed with one person, how does that make them a skank? When unfortunately her heart was so devoted to him, she didn't even have eyes for any one else.I'm not judging your opinion, I just find it an interesting accusation. Unless by skank, you are referring to the dancing(skank is form of dancing for Ska music). Amy has a lot of problems, and hopefully(for her own sake, not her music) she gets help and starts to live her life for her in a healthy way.

    U go girl!!!
Amy's back---I wanna hear more from her. Her voice pushes all my buttons. Not since Janis Joplin has there been a talent of her type.
She looks good --she gained weight---- she seems in control. Good work Amy

What a hoax on you all. At 56 I've seen alot of rubbish being foisted as talent. And a lot of drug use taking friends and family away. This is just the latest generation being misled by the latest set of 'promoters' and idolizers. I wish I had some of my dead friends back. I turned 'square' at 25 and am glad I have a family to show for it. This drug addled Amy will self destruct and everyone will make a nice profit as she does. Pardon my cynicism, but I've seen it all before. Just my opinion.. gk

Just because she's a junkie doesn't mean she's not talented Gk. Thats a moronic statement.

You obviously wouldn't know talent if it slapped you upside your head, GK.

Amy Crack-House is a much-to-do about nothing and I'm tired of people comparing her to Aretha Franklin, Dinah Washington, Etta James, Billie Holliday, and other great Jazz and R&B singers. I think she has turned her whole addiction into some sort of role as the "troubled and tortured" chanteuse like Billie Holliday and Dinah Washington. Trust me, Lady Day and Queen Dinah would've given anything to get that "monkey" off of their backs NOT waddle in their addictions.
