Nine Inch Nails got the New York leg of its 'Wave Goodbye' Tour started off with a bang over the weekend, with the band playing a mesmerizing show in front of just 500 at the Bowery Ballroom on Saturday. They kicked it up a notch Sunday when Trent Reznor moved his band to the larger Webster Hall, where NIN played its landmark 1994 disc 'The Downward Spiral' in its entirety for the first and only time ever. "I always wanted to play that whole record," Reznor told the audience early Monday, nearing completion of the second of just 10 farewell gigs slated for NYC, Chicago, Toronto and Los Angeles. "That's the only time we're going to do it."
Afterward, the Twitter-happy frontman posted, "That was a fun (and exhausting) show to play tonight! Thanks to all who attended."
Prior to the gig, Reznor Tweeted that the show would be special, informing fans, that "there was gonna be a 'cool setlist'" for the gig. Ecstatic fans -- some of whom slept on the sidewalk in front of the venue the night prior -- were treated to a first when the disc was played in sequential order. Awestruck attendees were treated to no encores, but were stoked to be present for what was truly a once-in-a-lifetime performance.
