Snow Patrol came to the rescue of the V Festival at Chelmsford in Essex on Sunday night after Oasis bowed out due to Liam Gallagher's viral laryngitis.Rising to the challenge, Gary Lightbody's (pictured) outfit didn't forget their good fortune, covering not one but two Oasis songs during their set on the main stage.
The band covered both 'Champagne Supernova' and 'Wonderwall' from Oasis' 1995 mega-seller '(What's the Story) Morning Glory' during their encore. Lightbody said: "The mighty Oasis should be here tonight!"
While there had been boos earlier during the day when the news of Oasis' no-show was made public, the NME reported Snow Patrol received a warm response when they took to the stage."Already you're one of the best crowds we've ever played to," Lightbody told the crowd after only two songs, before dedicating the song 'Run' to Elbow, who had played the main stage before them.
Meanwhile, 4Music Stage headliners Keane also got in on the Oasis-cover act, playing an acoustic version of 'Cast No Shadow' on Sunday night.
And MGMT joined the tributes, applying a version of 'Live Forever' along with a cardboard cutout of Liam Gallagher during their V Festival set.
