If you know little else about duo Rodrigo y Gabriela, don't assume that everything about their skilled rhythmic guitar playing is completely rooted in their Mexican heritage. "You have great musicians that play traditional music from Mexico from different regions and they're masters. We are not masters," Gabriela Quintero says in an exclusive video clip. "We don't know Mexican music that well. We cannot say that our 'roots' and our music ... we're influenced by everything we like to hear, from boogie boogie to salsa or whatever."In fact, the pair proves their diversity by showing off their metal influence, bringing Testament guitarist Alex Skolnick into the studio for the recording of their upcoming album, '11:11.' The mini-documentary, which previews what's to come with the album's Sept. 8 release, features Rodrigo y Gabriela having intimate conversations about their influences, playing music in the studio and bringing their sound to life on the road.
