Sally Shapiro Gains Confidence With 'My Guilty Pleasure'

Many of the articles written about Swedish electro-dance pop performer Sally Shapiro love to cite her rather reclusive nature. Her shyness was certainly a factor when she and her writing partner, Johan Ageborn, came to the United States to do a DJ tour a few years back and opted to play other people's music instead of their own. Not surprisingly, It didn't go over well. "I think people get disappointed because they really wanted us to play live, but it was the second best stuff," Shapiro tells Spinner. "But I got more confidence after that in a way, because I noticed that it wasn't so scary to talk to people that I didn't know. I'm glad we did it but I would not do it again."Such confidence exudes itself on her sophomore effort 'My Guilty Pleasure,' a quality that she too has seen emerge this time around. Whereas before, she admits to having to essentially be bribed to get into the studio, any sort of trickery has fallen by the wayside. "I've been more secure and I don't have to practice on the songs so much before I record them," she says. "I feel more stable now; I think it's my voice also, that it's more stable, too. "
But all of this new-found confidence still won't bring her to the stage anytime soon, as she admits that recreating her music wouldn't exactly be easy or, perhaps, even pleasurable. "It's not the most suitable music for live sessions, since its electronic music," she says. "So I don't think you miss it so much. If we were a rock band, then it would become something extra when you play live. But for this kind of music, I don't really think it works."
Even if you can't hear her live, you can check out Shapiro's 'My Guilty Pleasure' in its entirety this week on Spinner.
