McCartney Says Lennon's Remarks About Beatles Were Fueled by Drugs
- Posted on Aug 27th 2009 12:25PM by John D. Luerssen
Paul McCartney has dismissed John Lennon's criticisms of the Beatles, including those included in a recent Rolling Stone article called 'Why The Beatles Broke Up.' Sir Paul attributes Lennon's negative sentiments, especially the ones made during a December 1970 interview with magazine founder Jann Wenner, to "drugs" and talking "crap" that he did not mean.During the interview, Lennon said he felt "sick" over selling out as a band and was "fed up" playing sidekick to Paul McCartney, saying that feeling was mutual for Ringo Starr and George Harrison. He also reveals he was upset with how the other Beatles treated his wife, Yoko Ono.
"They despised her," Lennon said. "It seemed I had to be happily married to them or Yoko, and I chose Yoko ... George insulted her right to her face and I didn't hit him, I don't know why. Ringo was alright but the other two really gave it to us. I'll never forgive 'em."
Speaking about Lennon's complaints after the band's 1970 split to Radio Times, McCartney now says, "Oh, he was on drugs, wasn't he? This is the trouble with history, with journalism."
"Whatever bad things John said about me," Macca added, "he would also slip his glasses down to the end of his nose and say, 'I love you.' John said so much crap that he later said he hadn't meant. It's bulls--- ... We were there. We all enjoyed it. I never really criticized John. I'm not that critical. It's a question of personalities."

You all can fuss and fight forever about whoes the greatest beatle. Its something that will never be resolved. You know what made them the best? John, Paul, George and Ringo working as a well oiled team!! They all bounced ideas off one another. Some of the early beatles songs say Mc Cartney/Lennon on the credits by the way. For what ever reason, they clicked and went on to extreme fame. Their music is legendary even today and will go on and on. What broke up the group? What breaks up a marriage... changes, drugs, alcohol, greed, other people or simply I want my freedom!!! No matter what... I love their combined or singular recordings cause "I feel fine" when I listen to "them"!!

You couldnt be happy with your lot in life like Sir Paul and now you are dead. I guess out of all the beatles you probably deserved the most to get a bullet - your dead and paul is now banging some new hot chic. I guess you turned out to be a real douchebag after all Sir John. Lucy has joined you in the sky and hopefully the chink wont be too far behind.

We have an informal society, called 'F.B.F.O.' (f.or B.eatles f.ans o.nly), and try to get together once a year in February, sometimes with a live band, or at least a lotta vinyl or CDs of the Lads from Liverpool!

yoko as his wife inherited his money. she gave julian plenty, just not as much as his long suffering wife thought he should.
they were in love.
john married cynthia because they were young and she was pregnant. get over it , it happens,
why should the beatles have to accept linda setting in? talk about un talented.
she eneded up in pauls band.
by the by ringo has more number ones than any of them.
it is really disgusting and racist to talk about her like that, she was a very lovely woman.
a man that could write Woman and the many love songs he did for her, he was in love.
Another Beatles post, another bashing of Sir Paul for his "commerical instincts" . . .
Paul was ALWAYS the driving force. Maybe Paul needed John, but John sure AS HELL needed Paul. Without him, John was (as one comteporaneous profile said) "The Laziest Man In All England".
Their best songs were TRUE collaborations. "A Day In the Life", Strawberry Fields (John admitted Paul wrote some of it), I Am The Walrus (ditto), and many more!!!
Paul bossy? Maybe. But John was lazy, George whined too much and Ringo went along for the ride. SOMEONE had to step up to the plate, or nothing would get done.
And boy, ONLY Paul would be criticized for still touring at 65 and saying it's only about ego. Maybe he likes to perform. Maybe he likes his fans. Maybe we should MARVEL at the fact he can do a three-hour show. Springsteen is turning SIXTY this year, but no one would EVER say it's "all about ego" for him.
As good a shape as he's in, Paul is till in the winter of his years. Let's appreciate him while there's still time.
Lennon was the genius lyricist.Paul the genius composer. They formed the GREATEST BAND EVER!They needed each other.True Lennon more talented than McCartney

The year he made that comment The Beatles were all kind of bitter about the group and the business dealings. I believe if you asked John today his comment would be a lot different. Also Paul is slipping with his stories as he gets older because he can't remember. he even quoted recently that his fans remember more of his history than he does.

from a BOAC at possibly Idlewild Airport in I think 1963 was evidently the quintessential song writer of all times, he was not able to produce the brilliant and most innovative lyrics credited to John Lennon, a veritable genius. In 1970 when the Beatles broke up, Paul was essentially a one eyed man in a kingdom of blind men. Wings was good but adding his wife was preposterous and Bad company, Foreigner, Boston, War, James Taylor, Santana, Kenny Rogers at some junctures were better. At 67, Paul does not realize that music has evolved to a different level and he should not be carrying a grudge against a musical giant who we all loved and was taken from us in such a gruesome fashion.
Lennon only had a few songs that were any good after he left the Beatles. Paul had much, much more, but still nothing compared to his first band. Yoko must have fucked John beyond belief to break John away. Plus, she was fcuking ugly! I mean, butt ugly! Fugly!
