Q-Tip Dedicates His Outside Lands Peformance to DJ AM

Festivals are often a sort of music oasis where fans can leave troubles from the "real world" behind for the weekend, but when word broke at San Francisco's Outside Lands that DJ AM passed away on Friday, it was difficult not to let that sad truth seep in.

While some heard through texts and tweets, many first heard the news straight from Q-Tip, who announced it onstage. He dedicated his set to his "fallen comrade," telling the crowd that his good friend had just unexpectedly died and asked for a moment of silence. While he didn't change his set, he honored the passing of his friend and fellow hip-hop soldier by throwing down extra hard and celebrating life -- not just DJ AM's but everyone's -- through the power of music.

DJ AM -- aka Adam Goldstein -- died in his New York City apartment on Friday. He was 36.
