Spinnerette Ready for Family-Style Rocking at Reading and Leeds

Brody Dalle and her band Spinnerette are set to travel to the North of England this weekend as they kick off a string of sets at the UK's legendary Reading and Leeds festivals. While playing festivals abroad is old hack for Dalle, who hit them all while fronting her last band, the Distillers, the singer revealed to Spinner that she'd been putting in some serious preparation for these often-muddy gigs. "I've been doing some levitating and drinking like, neon green tea and that's kind of like my training," she deadpans. It'll be Spinnerette's first time at the UK fests, but Dalle hints the set will be memorable. "Everyone thinks it's a good time for surprises when you have like a 40-minute set ... I think we're gonna do the Devo cover, 'The Day My Baby Gave Me a Surprise,'" she says. "And I think we may cover a Yaz song, 'The Only Way Is Up.'"
Adding to the merriment will be the Eagles of Death Metal, who are also playing Reading and Leeds on the same days as Spinnerette, a band that features Dalle's husband, Josh Homme, and his longtime best friend, singer Jesse "The Devil" Hughes. "We'll be together like one big happy family," she says. "It's like a party. It's just like a hug out or something, like snuggle-time."
Also on board for this weekend's trip is Brody and Josh's daughter, Camille. And like her rock star parents, she'll be staying up late -- sort of. "She just goes to bed at Los Angeles time, which is usually like 2AM when you're on European tours," Dalle says. "It's really hard on their little bodies, so it's best to keep their schedules as close to home as it can be."
In the future, however, Dalle admits she'd like to spend more time off the road. "It's been kind of hard, I don't really want to leave too much these days," she says. " I'd rather be like Tom Waits and just like, be a recording artist and once in a blue moon go on tour.
"I've seen Paris," she continues. "I really like Paris, but I don't need to go there anymore."
