In the early 1990s, while bands like Nirvana and Soundgarden were bringing national attention to grunge music, another underground scene was emerging, spearheaded by Kentucky punk rockers the Gits. Led by charismatic frontwoman Mia Zapata, the band was a staple of the Seattle punk movement before Zapata was brutally raped and murdered at the height of the Git's popularity.Despite efforts within the community to bring the killer to justice, the case remained unsolved for years.
