Grizzly Bear ushered in a serene set on Sunday at Brooklyn, N.Y.'s East River State Park, bringing this year's JellyNYC Pool Party series to an end. In a season marred by rainstorms and broken stages, audience members at the Williamsburg Waterfront finally caught a break and enjoyed free music performances under near-cloudless skies. No one was more surprised by the ideal conditions of the outdoor festival than Grizzly Bear themselves. "I thought there was going to be a hurricane!" singer Ed Droste declared.Special guest Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) was brought in to introduce headlining act Grizzly Bear. The first senator from Brooklyn in 150 years promised the passage of "a good healthcare bill," before the four-piece hit the stage. Playing before a gathering of politicos and pop idols (Jay-Z and Beyonce were both spotted amongst the crowd of New York hipsters), it was clear that Grizzly Bear had no trouble winning over their hometown audience.
The group graciously thanked its opening acts Beach House and Vega ("They were both f---ing awesome," the members testified) and played such 'Veckatimest' hits as 'Fine For Now,' 'While You Wait for the Others' and 'Two Weeks.' Beach House's Victoria Legrand even joined the band onstage to lend her vocals to the collective's transcendent harmonies. "Thank you for spending your Sunday afternoon with us," the band said appreciatively as the tranquil concert -- and summer music series -- drew to a close.
